Courses are open to all, but peer workers are prioritized for this free program.
5 courses (10 hours of training) are required for a completed Street Degree. 10 courses (20 hours of training) are required to complete a Masters Degree. Participants can use their certification to get jobs or advance their roles at overdose prevention sites and other community services.
In qathet, courses are co-facilitated by people with lived and living experiences, health professionals, and community educators twice a month at Lift’s Community Resource Centre.
Naloxone Train the Trainer
Learn how to teach overdose response, including giving breaths and naloxone administration. Participants review overdose prevention and the SAVE ME steps and practice training others.
Advanced Overdose Response
Go beyond the fundamentals of overdose response and learn about complicated overdose presentations, including rigidity and benzo overdose, and how to use advanced tools such as a triangle mask, bag-valve-mask (BVM), oral airways, and/or oxygen.
First Responder Collaboration
Learn about communication between first responders when calling 911, handing over care, and directing people to community resources.
In addition to overdose prevention, Street Degree also covers conflict resolution, alcohol harm reduction, navigating social support systems in qathet, and more!
