Family Place

Our supports

Our Family Place Resource Centre strives to provide a fun and inclusive space for all caregivers with young children (0-6 years old), while offering community, resources, and programs which are responsive to each family that visits our centre. 

Everyone is welcome at Family Place. You do not need a referral. Our program is free of cost. 

Family Place offers free: 

  • Drop-in play group for caregivers and children 
  • Registered learning activities for families 
  • Information, resources, and referrals from our trained staff 
  • Peer support for caregivers (parent volunteers and parenting groups) 
  • Classes and workshops for parents and/or children 
  • Take-home activity kits for kids 
  • Kids clothing, toy, and book swap 
  • Food pantry, hygiene cupboard and frozen-meals to take home 
  • Computer, Phone  & Internet access for parents and caregivers

Baby-time! Drop-In
Come by the Centre for informal drop-in. We’ll have family-friendly snacks and refreshments, and caregivers are welcome to access our other centre resources and/or connect with our staff and volunteers during this time. This Drop-In is for children up to 18 months old. 

Toddler-time! Drop-in
Come by the Centre for informal drop-in. We’ll have family-friendly snacks and refreshments, and caregivers are welcome to access our other centre resources and/or connect with our staff and volunteers during this time. This Drop-In is for children between 18 months and 6 years old.

Library Storytime
In partnership with the Powell River Public Library. A half-hour program filled with stories and songs. 

Open Space Parent-Led Programming
We value the efforts, skills and abilities people bring into the centre! During Open Space caregivers can get together to skill-share in a supportive atmosphere.  Come for lunch and share your ideas with others.  Children welcome too! 

Group field trips
Group outings for parents and children. Some examples include blueberry picking and tours of the public library. 

Seasonal celebrations
Throughout the year we host special events and activities to celebrate multi-cultural and seasonal events. 

 

Questions and Answers

No. Family Place is not a childcare facility. A caregiver for your children must be present at all times during programming.

Yes. Please do! With the understanding that during BABY-time the main activities will be focused on babies and their caregiversWe welcome older and younger siblings outside of our ‘funding mandate’ (o-6yrs)Kids older than 6 are welcome to attend with their family.

YesStaff are able to assist families with completing applications such as these.  Our fax machine, printer, computer/scanner and phone are available for families to use for completing applications. 

YesFamilies can use the drop-in centre for supervised visits during open hours.  NOTE: Family Place staff are not able to take on any supervision dutiesYour family is also welcome to use the drop-in centre to meet with representatives from other family support other agenciesTalk to staff to find out more info. 

If you or your children have a cold or virus that is contagious, please call ahead and we can talk with you over the phoneWe ask that people stay home if they are feeling ill, however we can meet you at the door or make special arrangements to accommodate your family after hours if possible. 

No. At this time we are unable to make deliveries to families outside of the centre.

 

YESMany families have celebrated their child’s birthday at the centreYou can bring a special ‘birthday’ snack and we can sing ‘happy birthday’ and play a favorite game.  NOTE: Please keep presents for opening at home.
