Drug Checking: Free Services

We offer free, anonymous drug checking services including FTIR Spectrometer services and fentanyl test strips, as well as free substance use and harm reduction information and resources.

FTIR Spectrometry

Our staff are trained in Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy which is a device that gives a detailed reading of the components (ingredients) in a substance. With FTIR spectrometry we can tell you:

  • What the main active ingredient is
  • If other drugs may be mixed in
  • If cutting agents have been used as a filler
  • Up to 3 – 4 different components, including approximate proportions

Checking uses a small sample about the size of a matchhead and about 10 minutes. The FTIR is nondestructive to the sample.

Fentanyl Test Strips

Fentanyl test strips help identify whether there is fentanyl or fentnayl analogues in your substances. We can test your substances for you, and provide test strips for take-home use as well.

Harm reduction supplies

We can provide clean, new harm reduction supplies.

Harm reduction information and resources

We provide connections to local harm reduction and substance use supports and resources.
